About OweNo
OweNo helps you split expenses with friends, family, and roommates. Create a group, share a short alias, and start tracking who paid what. There are no accounts and no ads — the group alias is the only key needed to access it.
What you can do
- Create a group, give it a short alias, and share it with friends.
- Optional password protection for a group.
- Add expenses, with optional notes and arithmetic in the amount field.
- Split expenses evenly or unevenly — by shares, percentage, amount, or per-person adjustments.
- Mark expenses as paid by multiple people, with their own split mode.
- Duplicate-entry detection that flags possible repeats on save and inline in the list.
- See balances and suggested settlements for everyone in the group.
- Record settle-up payments outside of expenses.
- Multi-currency expenses with live conversion.
- Recurring expenses with optional end-date or occurrence cap.
- Activity feed with a full audit trail — expense edits, deletes, restores, and group-setting changes.
- Search and filter expenses by date, payer, category, or recurring status.
- Stats page breaks down spending by category, payer, and over time.
- Progressive Web App with optional push notifications (web, Android, iOS 16.4+ installed PWA).
- Works offline: already-visited groups stay browsable, and new expenses sync automatically once you reconnect.
- Light and dark theme.
- Export expenses as CSV or JSON.
- Export and import this device's groups and preferences as a JSON file.
Recent updates
v0.7.3
May 20, 2026Settings page with device-data export and import.
- New Settings page collects this device's preferences in one place — notifications, display mode, and device-data export/import.
- Export this device's groups and preferences as a JSON file, or import one from another device to merge it in.
- Header trims down: About and Settings become icons; the notifications bell and theme toggle move into the new Settings page.
- First visit to /groups now offers a one-time prompt to turn on notifications, so the feature isn't hidden behind the new layout.
- Push notifications now also fire when group settings change — name, currency, default split, description, participants added/removed/renamed — not just for expenses.
- Settings export and import now also carry each group's notification preference and the global opt-in. Importing on a device that has granted notification permission re-subscribes those groups automatically.
v0.7.2
May 19, 2026Clearer signals around passwords and settings.
- Push notifications and the confirmation dialog now explain why notifications were reset after a password change; removing a password sends a separate push letting members know the group is open again.
- The activity feed lists individual group-setting changes — name, currency, default split, password, and each participant added, removed, or renamed — instead of a generic "settings modified" line.
- New "Start using OweNo" button on the About page jumps straight to your groups list.
- Various small fixes.
v0.7.1
May 19, 2026Password changes reset group notifications.
- Setting or changing a group password sends one final push to every subscribed device, then resets the group's notifications.
- The device that changed the password sees a confirmation reminding it to re-enable notifications.
